The Chemistry algorithm assesses significant chemical substances across a material’s life cycle, from cradle to gate (ready to ship to the product assembly factory). It combines human health hazard evaluations for Carcinogenicity, Acute Toxicity, Chronic Toxicity, and combined Reproductive Toxicity and Endocrine Disruption with assumptions about potential exposures during the life cycle. We do not evaluate eco-toxicity, as Nike does not consider the data to be of sufficient value for making business decisions given the added complexity, cost and time required to gather the data.
